The beginning
In 2018, Kathrine “Kat” Weir served with a pregnancy center and children’s home in Jamaica. Years later, she learned that a boy she had met would soon reach the age when many young people leave institutional care without the stable family support they still need.
That reality became a call: create a home where teenage boys are known, loved, guided, and prepared for life—not simply housed until a birthday.
The vision
Freedom House of Sons is being developed as a place where boys can heal, learn, grow, and remain connected to community.
A stable, Christ-centered home shaped by safety, trust, consistency, and family.
Education, practical and vocational skills, mentorship, and guidance for adult life.
Trauma-informed support and, whenever safe and possible, strengthened family relationships and reunification.
The work has already begun
While plans for the home move forward, Kat is already mentoring boys, supporting their education, and surrounding them with trusted adults and professional care when needed.
One young man, Orlando, became the first boy mentored through the Freedom House vision. His story shows what can happen when someone offers patience, practical help, and the steady message: your future matters.

Land in Hopewell, Hanover has been provided for the future home. The survey is complete, and the title process is underway. Project Grateful Hearts is building partnerships for the next stages of planning, construction, staffing, and sustainable care.
This is long-term work, and every step is being approached with prayer, local collaboration, and a commitment to protect the young people at its center.
